Life, contamination, death, healing. Creation and the destroyed. With its origins as an entheogen, to its commercial use today, the meaning and purpose of tobacco changed through time, by the contamination of another’s culture through the colonization of territory. Terra, in relation to the earth, is representative of how we as humans relate to the ground separated by culture. Consciousness of the use of the object is changed from spiritually divine to a drug - with this we can sense the loss of connection with what was originally seen as sacred. As the artist, I acted as the supplanter and contaminator, to reflect the use of tobacco throughout its use. Even so, nature has its own ways. Earth is to relate back to nature, where life forms arise and come back, into the mother and back again to the womb. From that, there is no separation, only the Mother.
